PRP stands for platelet rich plasma and is a treatment that uses the patient’s own blood cells, rich in growth factors, to stimulate cell reproduction and tissue regeneration while encouraging hair growth. Plasma is the part of your blood that contains water, protein, and certain types of blood cells (platelets) that help your blood to clot. A small vial of blood is sourced from a vein in your arm and is then processed to increase the concentration of platelets in a fraction of plasma. This platelet rich plasma is then injected into the scalp in areas of hair loss and thinning hair.
PRP injections can often combined with other treatments for hair thinning and hair loss including hair growth supplements. at LMG Cosmetics we are excited to now be offering our patients Nutrafol!
While desired outcomes and treatment plans vary from patient to patient, we recommend an average of 3 to 4 consecutive PRP treatments that are spaced out 4 to 6 weeks. Depending on your body’s individual response to PRP, we make recommend more until the desired outcome is achieved. We also recommend maintenance injections for best and lasting results.
PRP treatments are powerful and provide wonderful patient outcomes, but they do require a bit of patience. Optimal results are observed about 6 months following the procedure. Patients also may begin to notice changes in the texture and thickness of their hair a few weeks after their first PRP treatment. Over the coming months, most patients then notice new hair growth! Results last about 18-24 months, and can then be supported through maintenance visits.
We kindly ask patients to arrive for their PRP appointment 15 minutes early and that they are well hydrated and have eaten that day to avoid any lightheadedness. Each PRP procedure is about 15-30 minutes total, ensuring for a quick and efficient treatment that has you on your way in under 45 minutes!
